What are the key differences between the artificial onyx sheet and extruded acrylic?

The main difference is the alabaster sheet design. For example, the chemicals added while manufacturing and the way they’re handled after manufacturing. In the case of extruded acrylic, the acrylic polymer is added while Acrylic resin is cast in Mold. To increase the manufacturing capacity, manufacturers have added long functioning units. The cast Acrylic is less thick in comparison to the options available. However, it has great thermal stability. Also, it is very resistant in other cases like in developing scratches. Accordingly, there is no place for mild or moisture to settle and damage the objects. Because of this property, the material is heavily used by interior designers.

Are Polycarbonate sheets and acrylic sheets different?

Yes, both are sheets are manufactured using different materials and techniques. Both are like competitors to each other. Acrylic and polycarbonate sheets have approximately half the weight in comparison to the glass sheets. That’s why it is very easy to carry them. In the case where the sheets have to be transported, the fuel cost is also low. Acrylic and polycarbonate sheets both have involvement of plastic. Even after having plastic, they are designed in such a way that they’re much stronger than glass. However, the only point of comparison is that the Acrylic sheets are much rigid while polycarbonate sheets are flexible. 

Acrylic has almost 16 times impact in comparison to the glass sheets. Polycarbonate sheets are almost 200 times impact in comparison to the glass sheets. Accordingly, during stress, acrylic breaks easily. 

Are acrylic sheets easily moulded?

Yes, acrylic sheets are easily moulded while manufacturing. However, when are Sheets are ready for use they shouldn’t be moulded. Doing so may result in breaking the sheets as just discussed above, acrylic is a very rigid material. In comparison to this, polycarbonate sheets are moulded to certain angles. Moulding them fully may result in the same consequences. 

Note: Acrylic sheets have to be melted for moulding. Don’t try this process at home otherwise the sheets may break into pieces. There are dedicated tools for handling the same process. 

Are acrylic sheets heat-resistant?

Yes, up to a certain temperature, the sheets can handle the heat. However, Increasing the temperature continuously results in melting the whole sheet. That’s because the plastic is involved in the process. Here, polycarbonate sheets also possess the same properties. They cannot withstand high temperatures.  

Why acrylic sheets are installed in kitchens?

Acrylic sheets are installed in kitchens because they support hygiene. There are negligible pores on the surface. Because of this, the moisture and dust particles cannot settle easily. Accordingly, the water droplets are unable to damage the surface. Maintaining the acrylic sheets is also an easy task. The sheets can be easily cleaned by using a cloth.

Note: Using rough clothes/objects for cleaning may result in scratches. Additional chemicals are available in the market to fill the gaps generated because of scratches. If not filled timely then moisture and dust particles can damage the inner core. However, the process is slow because plastic is involved.
